Tribute to 9-11

Livonia Post 32 invited Milford Post 216 to celebrate a Tribute of 9-11. The Milford ALR stood tall and represented our Post with utmost professionalism. We were also honored to share this remembrance with Maria (Ray) Williams' family all the way from the Netherlands. The tragic events of 9-11 made an impact not only at home, but on all civilized nations in the world. Livonia Post 32 and their community leaders were very impressed with Milford's presence on this somber evening. Thanks to Ray, Maria & Family, Rich, Gaby, Dennis, Beth, Paul, Ken, Bob and Stacey.

Milford ALR Legacy Run

Since 2006, Riders nationwide have participated in the Legion Legacy Run, to annually raise money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund, established to provide scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed since Sept. 11, 2001. This year Milford Post 216, with the help of ALR members Ray & Maria Williams raised $1000.00 for the Legacy Scholarship Fund. We owe a great deal of gratitude for the generosity of the Milford Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and ALR. Each group donated $250.00 for this great cause. On this day Legacy Riders throughout the country headed to the final destination of Indianapolis IN. Ray & Maria met the group in Niagra Falls NY and headed west. A few Milford ALR's were able to catch up with the Riders for lunch at Garden City Post 396. This is where Ray & Maria presented the Legacy Scholarship Fund with a $1000.00 check. Great job Ray, Maria and to Milford Post 216!

Post 216 Makes The Big Screen

The Milford American Legion Honor Guard and Riders were invited to be "Extras" in a motion picture by Director Sam Logan Khaleghi. The movie title is "Approaching Midnight" and is a character drama about a soldiers' return home from the current war abroad in Afghanistan only to find the life he left behind in shambles. The Milford Honor Guard and ALR will be in a funeral scene shot at the Milford Oak Grove Cemetery. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2013. Special thanks to Tony Puente and Andy Russell for making this possible.

Post 216 Offers a Hand to Michigan Veterans Support Group

Our Post was selected as a rest stop for the Michigan Veterans Support Group LTBF Ride out of the White Lake VFW. This is the second year we were able to offer a helping hand. The Milford ALR including Legion, SAL, and Auxillary helped make this a safe and comfortable ride for about 100 Riders. We had plenty of cold beverages and hotdogs to hold everyone over. Special thanks to Gary Dykstra and his crew for all the preparation and hard work!

SAL Convention

This years SAL Convention was held in Houghton Lake MI. The weather was less than accommodating but Squadron 216 out of Miford MI was able to put some smiling faces on many. This year our SAL donated a substantial amount of money to our veterans and our kids: $400.00 to Make-A-Wish, $2,500.00 to Child Welfare, $1,200.00 to Homeless Veterans, $1,000.00 to Boy & Girls State! Our Post was recognized by all attending the convention. We should be very proud of our delegates and our membership for their generous accomplishments!

Memorial Day Parade

American Legion Post 216 and the Village of Milford hosted another very successful Memorial Day Parade. The weather was perfect and we had a great turn-out of Veterans, Participants, and Celebrants. The parade ended at Central Park with a very moving memoriam for our Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Congratulations to all who made this very special day possible.
